Methane: the fast track to climate impact<\/span><\/b><\/h4>\nOne of the main reasons these projects have such a significant impact is that they help reduce emissions of methane, a particularly potent greenhouse gas.<\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\nA multiplied effect<\/strong><\/h3>\nThe QSC\u2019s emissions reductions are calculated conservatively using a 100-year global warming potential (GWP) of 25. Using this conservative approach, the project has already achieved a total reduction of 4.76 million metric tons of CO\u2082e.<\/p>\n
However, when considering the actual impact of methane over 20 years (GWP20 = 84), this figure rises to nearly 16 million tons of CO\u2082e avoided.<\/p>\n
This illustrates the immediate, measurable, and lasting impact of reducing methane emissions on the climate.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Global benefits, local rewards<\/strong><\/h4>\nBeyond reducing GHG emissions, tackling methane also offers significant economic benefits.<\/p>\n
According to a study published in the journal Science (Stoerk et al., 2024), reducing global methane emissions could prevent over USD 1 trillion in climate-related damage per year by 2050, at a cost six times lower than the benefits generated.<\/p>\n
